Manchester, woensdag, 18 juni 2025.
Following a significant cyber attack in April 2025, Co-op has chosen a remarkable strategy to accommodate its 6.5 million members. From 18 to 24 June, members will receive a 25% discount on purchases over £40, amounting to a saving of £10. This compensation not only marks the retailer cooperative’s recovery but also demonstrates its customer-focused approach during technical challenges. Matt Hood, Managing Director of Co-op Food, emphasises the company’s resilience and the support of its members during this difficult period.

Cyber Attack Impact and Recovery

Co-op experienced a significant cyber attack in April 2025 that disrupted food business operations [1]. In response to this technical challenge, the retail cooperative is returning to normal business, with all marketing activities restarted [2].

Member Compensation Strategy

From 18 to 24 June 2025, Co-op is offering its 6.5 million members a special compensation scheme: £10 discount on purchases over £40, which equates to a saving of £10 per transaction [1][2]. This offer also applies to new members and is part of the ‘thank you’ campaign following the cyber attack [3].

Business Perspective

Matt Hood, Managing Director of Co-op Food, emphasises the company’s resilience: ‘We are proud that we have almost fully recovered from the cyber attack’ [1]. The company expects strong summer sales, anticipating over 500,000 barbecue meat products and 1.1 million bottles of chilled wine [2].
