Summer Food Safety: National Authorities Increase Market and Beach Inspections
Boedapest, woensdag, 11 juni 2025.
In response to the summer season, the National Food Chain Safety Authority and the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority are intensifying their food safety checks. The fortnightly campaign specifically targets seasonal products like strawberries and popular summer locations such as ice cream parlours and beach buffets. The primary aim is to protect consumers by conducting rigorous post-checks on the origin, quality, and hygiene of food products. Initial inspections reveal that while the majority of sellers comply with regulations, some vendors are still attempting to circumvent laws and rules.
National Food Inspections Intensified
The National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nébih) and the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) are conducting enhanced food safety checks during the summer season [1][2]. The fortnightly campaign specifically targets seasonal products like strawberries and popular summer locations such as ice cream parlours and beach buffets [3].
Inspection Goals and Approach
The authorities have two primary objectives: protecting consumers and supporting fair producers [1]. During the inspections, aspects such as food hygiene, product origin, and sales conditions are meticulously examined [2]. In the past two weeks, 30 sellers across various markets and locations have already been inspected [3].
Inspection Results
Initial inspections reveal that 16.667% of checked sellers have violated procedures [3]. Particularly in larger market locations, foreign products are increasingly being presented as local products [1]. The authorities have already initiated official procedures in 5 cases on suspicion of unlawful sales [3].
