Parijs, vrijdag, 13 juni 2025.
Carrefour is making a strong commitment to renewable energy production through a strategic partnership with GreenYellow. The company plans to install 25 solar energy centres on the roofs of its facilities by the end of 2025, expected to generate 32,800 MWh per year. This step is part of a broader sustainability strategy whereby Carrefour aims to use 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and reduce energy consumption by 27.5%. The first three solar power installations in Canoas, Americana, and Recife will already generate over 300,000 kWh of energy monthly, representing a significant reduction in energy costs and CO2 emissions.

Carrefour’s Solar Power Ambitions

Carrefour Brasil is determined to strengthen its sustainability strategy by installing 25 solar energy centres on the roofs of its facilities by the end of 2025. This ambitious step is expected to generate 32.8 thousand MWh per year [1], which equates to an estimated 4.4% reduction in the annual energy consumption of retail operations [2].

Current Solar Power Projects

Currently, Carrefour already has two solar energy centres in Canoas (RS) and Americana (SP), with a third installation set to be operational this summer in Recife (PE). These three centres have the potential to generate more than 300,000 kWh monthly [3], representing a significant reduction in energy costs and CO2 emissions.

Long-Term Sustainability Strategy

The company aims to use 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and reduce total energy consumption by 27.5% [4]. Marcelo Poli, Director of Property Maintenance and Construction at Carrefour, emphasises that the solar panels contribute to generating clean and renewable energy, thereby reducing dependence on traditional energy sources [5].
